Can you believe Britney Spears and Justin Timberlake DIDN’T invent Canadian Tuxedos?! Well, they sure as hell pulled them off.
It’s true that beloved denim icons Britney and Justin didn’t invent the Canadian Tuxedo. *sigh* In fact, after Bing Crosby was denied entry into a Canadian hotel for wearing jeans, Levi was inspired to create a formal suit out of denim. We still should pay tribute to Britney and Justin for making this an acceptable- and might I say cool- look.
If you still don’t know a Canadian Tuxedo is, quite simply it’s wearing denim on denim. The most common and casual way to wear this style is a jean jacket paired with blue jeans. If you’re looking to go all out, try incorporating even more denim with accessories.
3 Rules to Pull Off a Canadian Tuxedo
Although it’s becoming more popular, the general population still seems weary of Canadian Tuxedos. It’s one of those outfits that you think looks good on others, but you tell yourself “I could never pull that off.” GIRL (or BOY), YES. YOU. CAN. I don’t want to hear those words in my house. You can pull off the Canadian Tuxedo as long as you follow these simple rules:
- Exude confidence: It doesn’t matter what you wear if you’re excuding confidence. With your head held high and a smile on your face, all people will see is beauty radiating from you.
- Mix-match denims: You can have it your way (matching or not), but try to stick to two or less denim washes before it gets ugly. Literally.
- Accessorize with statement pieces: Or denim! I personally like the Canadian Tuxedo as just a base to an even more outstanding overall look.
You see how easy it is? And it’s so fun to wear. I want to see your version of a Canadian Tuxedo. Make sure you snap a pic and tag me on social media so I can see and share!
