Surprise, surprise y’all. I’m young and broke! So I have quite a few tips and tricks on how to save money shopping online. If you learn one thing from this blog post, let it be this: Never buy anything full price…like ever. Just don’t do it. And sometimes I even combine a few of my tricks for even bigger discounts. Let’s see which of these you’re familiar with already and which are new!
Always Shop Online
Shopping online is imperative to find the best discounts. I always regret making an in-store impulse purchase because I could’ve waited to get home and could’ve found a discount. If you find yourself super eager to make a purchase in-store, I suggest you google the product while you’re still in the store to be sure it’s in stock online. Then go home, and follow the next steps.
Use Ebates
I am huge on Ebates (a cash back service) right now. I installed their internet browser extension, so every time I go to an eligible website, Ebates asks if I want to activate the current cash back rate. I also check often to see which sites have rates as high as 10%. It’s a great way to save some extra cash. The absolute best part is that it doesn’t interfere with the retailer’s current offers or promotion code limit. It’s just savings on top of savings!
Always Wait for a Sale or Discount
Never buy full price if you know that the retailer has sales often. I find that most websites I shop on have frequent sales. I also look for email sign up discount codes (usually 10-15%) or student discount codes (which won’t work if you aren’t a student). 10% doesn’t seem like much, but trust me, it builds up overtime, especially in combination with Ebates.
Before I complete any purchase online, I always google “(Insert Retailer) coupon code” first to see if I’m missing out on any extra discounts. Believe it or not, I find huge success with this. Yes, I usually find garbage discount codes too, but I always find it worth it to go on a small hunt to save some extra money.
Remain Loyal to Loyalty Programs
Sounds obvious, right? I’ve gotten so much free money through Express‘s rewards program. I often receive $10 – $30 from them. I’ve always been loyal, and the extra money helps me stick around. Not to mention, I’ve never bought anything full price from them…EVER!! Find your fave online retailers with the best rewards programs to save some extra money shopping.
Never Pay for Shipping
Always shop where shipping is either free or free with a minimum purchase. Online retailers are extremely good about this these days. If you shop on online-only stores, they usually have both free shipping and returns.
The easiest and quickest way to buy online (in my opinion) is Amazon Prime. I purchase necessities weekly because it’s easier than heading out to Walmart, plus it’s 2-day shipping.
Truthfully, all online retailers are attempting to match free or low-cost 2-day shipping, since it’s our new expectation when shopping online. ShopRunner is a similar service to Amazon Prime for fashion retailers, but I don’t think you need this since retailers are already pretty good about giving free shipping.
Leave Your Shopping Cart Overnight
Last, finding success with this is absolutely not guaranteed and will vary retailer to retailer. I don’t have much experience with this one, but some people swear by it. It’s believed that if you abstain from buying overnight, you may receive an incentive email the next day with free shipping or a discount code. Why not try it?
I hope you’ve found my tips and tricks on how to save money shopping online useful. I wrote based on my own experiences, and I think I may be an expert by now! Share with me in the comments your experiences shopping online and how you save money. And as always, happy shopping!
