Cheap, Quick & Easy
You should know 2 things about me first:
- I’m a penny pincher for almost everything (except margaritas.)
- I’m directionally-challenged, so transportation really stresses me out on trips.
I was shocked when a local told me he didn’t know there was a cheap, quick, and easy way to get from LaGuardia Airport to Manhattan. The first-timer to New York City got to teach him something new! I promise it’s extremely efficient, so don’t get intimidated about what I’m about to tell you.
Cheap: $2.75
Quick: 45 minutes (That’s really fast in New York City time.)
Easy: Let your GPS and this blog post do the heavy lifting!
How to Get from LaGuardia Airport to Manhattan
Once you land at LaGuardia airport, follow the signs leading you outside to public transportation. You’ll need to buy a Metrocard from the vending machines by baggage claim. It’s $2.75 per trip, so keep that in mind when loading your card. Transfer from the bus to the subway is included in this particular connection, so it shouldn’t cost more than that to get to Manhattan.
With your loaded Metrocard, go to the bus vending machines, and use your card to print a paper ticket for your bus ride. Hold onto this paper ticket during the bus ride, in case you get asked to present your ticket to an inspector.
Make sure you catch the Q70 SBS LaGuardia Link bus from Terminal B, C, or D. Ride the bus until the 74 St/Roosevelt Av stop, which is the connecting subway terminal.
From here, you can catch the 7, E, F, M, R subway lines. Now enter your final destination into your smartphone’s GPS. It will tell you the best train to take into Manhattan.
Last, ride the subway to your destination. BOOM, done! If you don’t believe me, see complete public transportation information from the LaGuardia Airport website.
The experience is very similar getting back to the airport, and I know by then you’ll be a pro at the subway! Feel free to DM me on Instagram if you need any help.
