According to Google’s dictionary,
pe·tite/pəˈtēt/adjective
- (of a woman) having a small and attractively dainty build.
Well, that’s a matter of opinion but ok.
What Does Petite Really Mean?
For the record, when I say I’m a petite blogger, I’m not bragging about my small and “attractive” dainty build. I am in fact referring to the clothing size that I’m confined to a lot of the time!
Petite is a special size range for shorter women–100% defined by height, NOT weight. If you’re under 5’4″, you should look into petite sizing for better-fitting clothes–including my plus size babes!
How Petite Sizes Fit
Petite women come in all sizes.
Standard clothing size is made for women 5’5″ and up; meanwhile, us shorter girls are left shopping in the petite section so we don’t have to get our clothes altered. Petite clothing is built for women typically with:
- narrower shoulders
- shorter torsos
- shorter arms
- shorter legs
Petite sizing mirrors standard sizing, except it typically has a “petite” reference such a “P” at the end. For example, I’m a 2P in jeans and a Petite XS in tops.
Where I Find Petite Clothing
Now that you know you might be petite, you should check your favorite retailers’ websites to see if they carry those sizes. You’d be surprised how many retailers offer petite sizing, especially online exclusively.
If you’re brand new to petite sizing and don’t know where to start, here’s some of my favorite retailers to get started:
Since discovering I was petite last year, I’ve discovered so many great places to find petite clothing, but I want to know more. Please share your favorites in the comments!!
